About

The Blog

The Cookie Shop is my fictional bakery.

It all began when I started making too many sweets on a regular basis (a little cuckoo, I know, and also knows my therapist). I didn’t want to put on weight, so, I gave away. Then, some friends made orders.  And friends of friends.

Maybe my little bakery is not that fictional after all.

The Author

I’m Paula.  I was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 1974.   One of my oldest memories of fun is making cutout cookies with my brother Renato, under mom’s  supervision.

Time passed and I became a TV producer, working for 12 stressful years in a number of TV stations. I’ve got married, had a daughter. Suddenly, my employer decided I was not good enough to be a stressed producer anymore – a mother, with all the package – maternity leave, the breastfeeding, was too high maintenance.  So, I was fired.  And here I am with all this free time … Baking and making cutout cookies with my daughter.

    Hey Paula–

Remember me? It’s Stacey G’s friend from The States. You were nice enough to show me and Bob around while we came for a visit many years ago…

How come you didn’t offer us any of your fantastic sweets? 😦

    Take care!

Hello 🙂 I came across your website through tastespotting.com. What a great site you have! I want to try so many of the recipes you’ve shared. Thank you for sharing 🙂

Bom dia Paula! You got a yummylicious food blog here! I also want to thank you for the extra effort of creating the English version too. That’s so nice of you and I hope to see more of your baking and cooking adventures. Please don’t worry of jobless…being a full time mother at home is as tough as a job!

Losing a work/job even though you worked like a horse for years, there’s no appreciation, you’re easily replaced (when they felt your costs were causing a tyre of their Bugatti Veyron or McLaren F1 or 1st Class holiday trips) and forgotten. Now you’re free and enjoying the fruitful and growing time with your daughter and family which are irreplaceable!!! Even though you’re old and feeble, she would still love you and cherished you because you’re there for her… that’s the most precious gift to a child 🙂

I resigned from my job of 11 years (I went to work before sunrise and back home when moon rise.. how about that?) as a senior in my former company after I got hitched. I was so glad that I did! Like you, when my son said, ‘yummy cookies’ and showed thumbs up, I felt accomplished!

Now, go on … keep on baking cute cookies and share your joys and talents with your new fans 🙂 You can count on me!

Muito obrigada for your all your efforts!

    Ola Paula.

I’m so happy to find you and your blog. You have such a beautiful, interesting and with really good recipes blog, I will be coming back for more, so far I will be reading the English version but when my Portuguese improves (I’m living in Macao) I definitely will switch to the original version 😉

Just wanted to thank you for the princess cupcakes. Princess cake is my mother’s favorite (she’s from Sweden) and one of mine as well! It can be such a mess to serve so cupcakes are a great idea.

    Paula,

One of my best friends has a ranch in Brazil and for the past two years I have been threatening to learn Portuguese. I also start taking baking and pastry classes next month, it seems your blog is the perfect mix for me! Thank you so very much for sharing and I hope you continue posting for as long as you love food 😉

I truly want to say that this blog looks delicious, just looking at it I’m sure I gained too many unwanted pounds ^^” I just wish that one day I’ll be able to make something just as tasty looking~ but for now while I practice I’ll have to settle with the local bakery. I’m eagerly waiting for more, and I’m sure I’ll be a regular 🙂 So good luck!

I started a blog a month and a half ago and have a long way to go but I’m enjoying it immensely. I’m putting a link from mine to yours so I can easily come back and see what you are up to.

    Ola Paula!
Once more, let me say congratulations for the blog and keep it up! I was wondering… would you mind telling me which sort of digital camera you’re using for the shoots? I’m considering buying one but I haven’t made up my mind yet.
    Take care and obrigada

Hi I was searching on google on cakes without milk and eggs when I came across your website. My little brother is alergic to milk products and eggs. So when I saw your recipe for a butterless, milkless, and eggless chocolate cake I was joyous and overwhelmed. If you have a phone number that I can call you at I would appreciate it if I can call you about where to buy the cake mix. Please send me a reply. Thank you have a great day.

    Paula,

I love your Cookie Shop website. You are a true artist! If your works of art taste anything like they look, they must be scrumptious. You’ve done a fabulous job decorating them; and your photography is impeccable. Which bring me to the reason I’m writing.

I love your Gingerbread Gang. I’m a graphic designer in the US, and I’m working on some promotional materials for Christmas for my church here in Duluth, Georgia. I would love to use your gingerbread men to decorate some of the pieces. May I?

I need to hear back from you quickly, as we will be going to press in about a week.

    Thanks,

    Waitsel Smith

Hi Paula, I “accidentally” found you through a link to one of your recipes, a yummy chocolate cake that you were going to have on a pizza night. I, too, love to bake, especially cookies. Will come to visit again soon. From a Rhode Island (U.S.A.) Paula

Hi Paula, thank you for sharing your recipes… i’m dying to start a “fictional bakery” as well… looking in the web at Apple cakes, I always come back to your recipe… I think is because it says Best Cake of the Whole Wide World…? Maybe!!!
I will bake it today, wish me luck….!!!
